If you have smile lines on your face and they are bothering you, there are treatments available that can make these lines go away. Keep reading to learn of two treatments that a dermatologist can do for you.
Cosmetic injectables, also known as fillers, can remove the smile lines for you. These injectables can also be used in other areas of your face. For example, they can plump your lips or add volume to areas of your face.
Fillers are made of a gel-like substance and injected using a small needle under your skin. Once injected the gel fills in the area adding plumpness and removing wrinkles and lines. Fillers are not a permanent solution as the substance will break down over time. Once this happens you can have the treatment repeated to keep the smile lines away. How long this does last depends on many factors, such as how deep the smile lines were, how much filler had to be used, your skin type, etc. Your dermatologist can give you much more information about this.
After this treatment, you may have some redness and swelling that will go away within a few hours. You should not touch the area until this happens. You can then wash your face and apply makeup gently. You should stay out of the sun for a few hours.
Another treatment option for smile lines is Botox. This is much like an injectable filler but does not work the same. Botox is a botulinum toxin that is injected into the smile lines using a small needle.
This works by weakening the muscles under the lines. The lines will then relax and may disappear completely. In some cases, they will be diminished so they are not as noticeable. This will depend on how deep the smile lines are. Just as with injectable fillers, Botox is not a permanent solution. It may last a few months or a few years. Your dermatologist can give you more information about this.
After the treatment, you should not touch the area that was injected for a few hours. Do not do any type of exercise for the first day and sit upright for a few hours. Do not do any activities that cause you to bend over, such as picking up while cleaning, going shopping, etc. You will generally start to see results within a few hours.
Your dermatologist can tell you of other treatments that will work well to remove your smile lines. Ask them about cosmetic injection procedures to see if they're right for you.Share
